For all food storage readers

If you are not signed up to get emails from Emergency Essentials, I highly recommend it. I order from them occasionally, and they do free gift card offers sometimes. Last time it was $10. This time they are offering a $20 one but I think you only get the offer by email, because it isn't on the main page of the site. Basically they want you to write a blog article about food storage for them to use on their blog and if they use it, you get the gift card. I think this is legit, because the last one I did with them was and I got my gift card very fast! The last one was for putting a link on my blog for them. So if you don't get emails from them, it can't hurt to sign up!

A major victory

Well for me anyway. I have never been able to make pizza crust. It has always been impossible to roll and shape and has always fallen apart. Well imagine my surprise when I heard I need to knead it longer! I honestly didn't believe it when I heard it but I tried it tonight with much success! I have a feeling I will be making us pizza much more often now. Pizza where the slices actually stay in slices and don't fall to bits and pieces! I know a small thing to be all excited about, but sometimes small victories are our most important ones!

Blessings come in all varieties

We were helping at the church food outreach yesterday. One of the things we had was apples that a member who owns a local orchard donated for the Christmas baskets. They really needed used up. When we knew we had enough (I was adding them to the bags of food) I started giving more than one bag of apples to the families with 5 or 6 in the family. But we still had quite a few that needed to go they were not going to last another month. So I brought home 15 three pound bags. I have canned about 23 quarts, and have the dehydrator full. I still have 2 1/2 bags that I am deciding what to do with. Such a blessing to know that we can have apple pie at least a couple times a month. Sometimes during tough times when money is tight, something as simple as desert makes a huge difference!

An awesome deal on shoes

Sears is having an awesome deal on shoes right now. I found it HERE They are having 50% off clearance shoes! Now they will show the clearance site on the price but when you put them in the cart, they will take the half off. And if you use Ebates (and if you don't you should check them out. They are like an instant rebate on things you would buy online anyway)Anyway they give 3% cash back for Sears! So if anyone in your home needs shoes or will soon, check it out. And they have free shipping right now over $50 on shoes! Mine charged me shipping so I used the chat with a customer service agent to get them to fix it. Can't beat that great price and free shipping!

Learning new sewing skills

So for the past year or so, I have been trying to self teach myself some more sewing skills. Thus the new sewing machine that my Beloved purchased for me recently. Today I finished a new rag doll pattern. My last one I got offline and it is just so small. This one is much nicer sized and I still need to finish her dress. She is FAR from perfect, but I used several new skills on her. Erica is already in love with her and thankfully is happy to accept that like people, rag dolls are not always perfect! That makes me pretty happy so that my rag dolls will always have a mommy! I love so much that Beloved has made a point to keep things where I can stay at home and be a wife and mother. I have been learning as I go for the last ten years, but I have found I don't dread the things I used to dread when I was raising children and working. My Ex just wouldn't work so someone had to do it. But he also didn't clean house, do laundry, or cook meals. So I was always in such a rush. I have found over the last ten years that I no longer dread being a wife, or a mother. And I no longer hate to cook, most days I actually like it ok. And sewing is much more fun now! Even when it isn't perfect and I don't always know what I am doing lol. My wonderful husband may not know it, but he has taught me a whole lot about who I am, and he makes me strive to be even better.

A great video to share!

You may want to pause the music player on the bottom of my blog for this one. I am sharing this one after seeing it on Our Self Sufficient Life blog. Hopefully she doesn't mind me sharing it here also. So here is the video!

This week in the sewing basket

This week I have been working on a quilt top and some head coverings. Sadly I found out that my Wal-Mart is doing away with the sewing department. This will mean a 50 mile drive to get materials for sewing when it is all done. Luckily I do get lots of materials from the thrift store. I have actually been using thrift store sheets for my quilt top I am working on. But it will be hard for getting some of my supplies. I got a new rag doll pattern and am in the process of putting it to poster board so I can use it longer. Patterns are so darn expensive I just can't see not doing this. I hope to have some dolls in the works really soon.

This cold must go

I know I know it is Ohio and it is wintertime. But this is just miserable. It is supposed to get above freezing later this week for a change, it may not sound like much, but upper 30's sounds like a heat wave for my ears! I never have liked cold really I have always preferred the summer. Not to mention that Erica can't go outside at all in this and she lives for her outside time. Her asthma has been bad enough without adding all that cold. Just heard on the news, another inch of snow expected tonight. I don't mind the snow so much though, just the cold that is it's friend.

Chicken soup for dinner tonight after I pressure cooked down the carcasses from two chickens. Stretched them out to dinner for three nights. I really think that whole chickens are on of the best buys in the supermarket. Not to mention it is a great night for soup! I am making some french bread to go with it, but it is taking forever to rise in this cool house! Hopefully I can pop it in the oven soon. I always make two loaves so I will also have a loaf for tomorrow night. Probably will also have leftover soup as a side dish tomorrow night. Last night, I made cheesecake. Beloved loves it and I really don't make it all that often so that is dessert for tonight. It is in the garage chilling! Even an attached garage is like a fridge in this cold.

Well I guess I stirred the pot again

I posted somewhere else about how I bought a snuggie for Erica at the thrift store today to put back for next Christmas. As she had wanted one this Christmas. I took a good lashing about since I had only paid $3 for it to give it to her already! Well I probably shouldn't but I defended myself lol. I am just a plain and simple woman trying to raise a plain and simple daughter who is not part of the "entitled" generation. She got her allotted Christmas gifts of three gifts and a stocking. And yes, I will give her a Valentines gift I already got it off of the 75% off Christmas clearance! No, I do not see Valentines day as a holiday, but I don't mind a day to give a little extra thought and love to a person. Am I so wrong to believe that the way I raise my daughter has everything to do with what she will turn out to be when she is grown? I think not. I have a son who is 19 who I have made me share of mistakes with! Will I make mistakes with Erica??? You bet I will! LOL. But I am determined that they will not be the same mistakes. So I yet again ask God to walk by my side with his arm around my shoulders and a hand not only around my mouth, but perhaps he could put the other over my keyboard lol.

New sewing machine

Beloved found a deal and ordered me a new sewing machine. It arrived and was the wrong one, the right one should be here tomorrow. This is going to be my valentines, mothers day, and birthday gift. He decided that rather than spending $25 on each for something, he would get me one big thing. I really don't feel that my meager sewing skills are worthy of a new machine, but maybe I will still get better lol. Right now, I have an old Singer featherlight that my mother had given me (she loved them and had several). I also have a JcPenney model that I got several years ago at the pawn shop. Right now, I am working on several sewing projects so it should be nice to try it out. I am working on a quilt, rag dolls and a gift right now (can't say what it is never know they may be reading). The quilt is also most likely going to be a gift for someone! Beloved is going ahead and giving me the machine, as most of my sewing happens this =time of year. Once spring hits, I will start being in the garden a lot again.
